Histophilus somni-associated syndromes in sheep from Southern Brazil.
Histophilus somni is a Gram-negative bacterium that is associated with a disease complex (termed histophilosis) that can produce several clinical syndromes predominantly in cattle, but also in sheep. Histophilosis is well described in North America, Canada, and in some European countries. In Brazil, histophilosis has been described in cattle with respiratory, reproductive, and systemic disease,...
متن کاملThe role of lipooligosaccharide phosphorylcholine in colonization and pathogenesis of Histophilus somni in cattle
Histophilus somni is a Gram-negative bacterium and member of the Pasteurellaceae that is responsible for respiratory disease and other systemic infections in cattle. One of the bacterium's virulence factors is antigenic phase variation of its lipooligosaccharide (LOS). LOS antigenic variation may occur through variation in composition or structure of glycoses or their substitutions, such as pho...
متن کاملAntimicrobial activity of bovine NK-lysin-derived peptides on bovine respiratory pathogen Histophilus somni
Bovine NK-lysins, which are functionally and structurally similar to human granulysin and porcine NK-lysin, are predominantly found in the granules of cytotoxic T-lymphocytes and NK-cells. Although antimicrobial activity of bovine NK-lysin has been assessed for several bacterial pathogens, not all the important bacterial pathogens that are involved in the bovine respiratory disease complex have...
متن کاملExpression of phosphorylcholine by Histophilus somni induces bovine platelet aggregation.
Histophilus somni-induced platelet aggregation was inhibited by antagonists of the platelet-activating factor (PAF) receptor but not inhibitors of PAF synthesis. In addition, H. somni cells expressing phosphorylcholine (ChoP) induced aggregation, while ChoP(-) H. somni cells did not. This suggests that H. somni ChoP may induce platelet aggregation via interactions with the PAF receptor.
متن کاملAntimicrobial Susceptibility of Thermophilic Campylobacter spp. Isolated from Environmental Samples in Tonekabon
The major purpose of this study was isolation, identification and antimicrobial susceptibility of thermophilic Campylobacter spp. from different sources including domestic animals (cow, sheep, horses), poultry, river water and sewage in Tonekabon. Campylobacter spp. was isolated using prêt-KB method and identified by phenotyping tests. Antimicrobial susceptibility of the isolates against differ...
